28th Anniversary
by stewiehues on Sep.05, 2011, under Events, General
28 years ago, I went to see my first NFL game. But before the game my father took me to the Marriott Hotel where the Dallas Cowboys were leaving from to go to RFK stadium.
I saw several buses lined up a few cabs. And then these men larger than life. John Dutton, Ed “Too Tall” Jonesnn Tony Dorsett all walked out of the hotel lobby onto the team buses.
Then an older gentleman with a fedora and a briefcase came out. I couldn’t believe it. At that moment there was God, Jesus and Tom Landry. It was not even a minute of my nine year old life. But I will never forget meeting Tom Landry on September 5, 1983.
Dallas won that game on a 4th Quarter comeback 31-30. A rookie by the name of Darrell Green played his first game. Howard Cosell called Redskin receiver Alvin Garrett a “little monkey” diring the ABC broadcast.
Landry and Green both are enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame. But that nt my dad became first ballot hall of famer!!!
Parents remember NOTHING you do or don’t do is small to your child. Some things just standout more than others.

While spending last week in North Carolina, I visited the Cane Creek Campground in Snow Camp.
Located just outside of Burlington, they host the Lil John’s Mountain Music Festival.
IBMA

You may ask, “What is IBMA?” It stands for International Bluegrass Music Association or I’ve Been Mostly Awake. Each fall they have the IBMA World of Bluegrass. For the last few year years it has been held at the Nashville Converntion Center.
The week long conference mixes producers, event coordinator, instrument makers, media consultants, recording labels, talent seekers, songwriters, publishers, musicians, and fans of the music. The convention features workshops, meetings and artist showcases. This is the business end of the convention. The business end winds down with the IBMA Award show at the Ryman Auditorium on Thursday night.
Friday morning begins the Fan Fest. This of course where the fans get to see music showcases in the Grand Ball Room. The concerts run from morning until nearly midnight. To top it all off there are late night showcases throughoutt the Convention Center and the Hotel. Oh the jams sessions never stop either. Music can be heard from just about every corner 24-hours a day.
Here is what the IBMA website has to say about the Fan Fest:
Proceeds from Fan Fest go to the Bluegrass Trust Fund, which helps bluegrass professionals in times of emergency need. And the artists who perform at Fan Fest donate their time for this effort.
Fan Fest performers are selected by a committee and talent is coordinated in an effort to present the best talent bluegrass has to offer, the old and the new!
This is a true homecoming for many in the industry. It’s a great way to experience a plethora of music.

Looking at my most recent work. I have decided it’s time to recreate my portfolio. My work has changed quite a bit in the last year. It’s time the book shows it.
