by on Jan.12, 2012, under General

What season is it here in Virginia? I am not really sure. We have had some snow rain thunder and minimal snow.

If you don’t like the weather in Virginia, just wait a day.

Where it Began: Grand Portrait

by on Dec.20, 2011, under General

I am very thankful for where it all began. Thankful of the ground and the family love there. Where a young learned the complexities of life. Where his love of the camera was discovered.

Thankful for those who no longer dwell in that house. They now dwell in a house with many mansions. I will see them once again in Grand Portrait.

The were ups, downs and even some toothe aches in 2011. This should not remove any of the great things that happened in the past year. It should be a reminder there are challenges on the way to success.

Learning your weaknesses are just as important in knowing and learning your strengths. Stay focused on a goal can be challenging. But being able to believe in yourself can help you maintain focus on the stepping stones to success.

Having a good structure of support and friendship as you go along this journey is also beneficial. Your support structure William believe in you even when you think you are at your lowest moments

I want to thank everyone for all the support go en to me and to Stewie Hues Media in 2011.

THANK YOU

Success of Others

by on Dec.14, 2011, under General

Perhaps the greatest feeling of all is knowing someone who has achieved a goal and sharing in the success. We often get caught up in our own battles of success and failure. Sometimes it can be good for the soul to enjoy the success of others.

This isn’t some feel-good mumbo jumbo. But there is no point in moping in the corner while everyone else is sipping champagne.

Have a great day everyone!!!!

Remembering Carter Stanley

by on Dec.01, 2011, under General

I have never admired a man so much that I have never met. His songs will live on forever. The stories I have heard about him make me feel a if I knew him.

On May 1, 1999, I met Ralph Stanley in Warrenton, VA and that was truly a life changing experience. I had limited knowledge of the Stanley Brothers’ catalog. After that day I was drenched in anything that had Carter and Ralph.

My ear was opened to a sound that reminded me of my late grandfather’s singing in a little church house in Ashville, VA. I couldn’t get enough of it.

It was there I began to listen to in the individual instruments. It was the lead guitar playing and bass singing of a man from western NC that made the Stanley sound unique and evermore pleasant to the ear. His name was George Shuffler.

There were Gospel songs, sad songs, love gone wrong songs, and good ol’ killin’ songs. But in it all there was a feel of true love for the music.

Carter passed away December 1, 1966. I have been told by many that I would have made friends very quickly with Carter. I would have loved to have met him and hugged his neck.

Skin soaked revelations, whiskey before dawn. It won’t be the same now that Carter’s gone.

Carter Stanley I will NEVER forget you and some day I’ll meet you up there!!!

Nashville Part 1

by on Sep.28, 2011, under Events, Music

This trip has been good so far. I have reunited with several old friends and acquaintances. It’s a good feeling to know there are other folks in this world that love what you love. This morning heading to the Country Music Hall of Fame for a Restless Heart concert. I have never seen this group live it should be a good time.

Tomorrow is the big award show at the Ryman. I am very much looking forward to that. I don’t know whether I will shout, cry or fall on my knees when they induct George Shuffler into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame. George is a truly unique class act. If you ever had any chance to interact with this man you will know of what I speak. Well it’s about time for me to go and get busy.

Oh, I am shooting photos while here in NashVegas. This should be good.

28th Anniversary

by on Sep.05, 2011, under Events, General

28 years ago, I went to see my first NFL game. But before the game my father took me to the Marriott Hotel where the Dallas Cowboys were leaving from to go to RFK stadium.

I saw several buses lined up a few cabs. And then these men larger than life. John Dutton, Ed “Too Tall” Jonesnn Tony Dorsett all walked out of the hotel lobby onto the team buses.

Then an older gentleman with a fedora and a briefcase came out. I couldn’t believe it. At that moment there was God, Jesus and Tom Landry. It was not even a minute of my nine year old life. But I will never forget meeting Tom Landry on September 5, 1983.

Dallas won that game on a 4th Quarter comeback 31-30. A rookie by the name of Darrell Green played his first game. Howard Cosell called Redskin receiver Alvin Garrett a “little monkey” diring the ABC broadcast.

Landry and Green both are enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame. But that nt my dad became first ballot hall of famer!!!

Parents remember NOTHING you do or don’t do is small to your child. Some things just standout more than others.
